Biogenic CO₂ Sources, Carbon Capture and Green Hydrogen Production

To reap the full benefits of CCU, industry needs a long-term supply of CO2 from persistent biogenic CO2 sources, efficient capture technologies and a constant supply of renewable energy and renewable hydrogen. Worldwide, over 300 million tonnes of biogenic CO2 are emitted annually and more than 70 companies worldwide and a total of 110 EU-funded projects are involved in CO2 capture. Although green hydrogen production in the EU is far below the 6 GW of installed electrolyser capacity targeted for 2024, current and future national and transnational European hydrogen infrastructure projects aim to bridge the current gap between green hydrogen production and its sufficient and efficient transport by combining renewable hydrogen production with its storage and transmission.

Learn about recent European developments in software-based assessment of biogenic CO2 sources, their potential for CCU demonstrated through case studies, cryogenic and mobile carbon capture solutions, and the provision of green hydrogen from water electrolysis and biogas production as enablers for CO2-based value chains: Green Hydrogen Production, Biogenic CO2 Sources & Carbon Capture

Abstract

The innovation award “Best CO2 Utilisation 2025“ honours innovative products and technologies that highlight the practical and impactful use of CO2. Participants can expect expert presentations, engaging discussions, and opportunities to connect with fellow innovators committed to advancing CCU technologies. The innovation award, sponsored by Yncoris and co-organised by CO2 Value Europe, is one of the highlights of the CO2-based Fuels and Chemicals Conference. Six nominees will be selected by an expert jury beforehand, with winners chosen by the audience during the award ceremony on 29 April 2025.
